چکیده

Ewing's sarcoma (ES) is an uncommon aggressive bone malignancy that mainly affects children and adolescents. Mandible involvement is quite rare and usually represents metastasis from another skeletal site. Combined therapy including wide surgical resection and preoperative and postoperative chemotherapy has been demonstrated as the mainstay of therapeutic approach. As improved therapeutic modalities have significantly increased survival over the last decades, functional and esthetic reconstruction of the postmandibulectomy defect is usually necessary for patient's total rehabilitation. We report a case of ES of the mandible with special consideration to the postresection spontaneous structural and functional regeneration of the mandible. Spontaneous Regeneration of the Mandible after Hemimandibulectomy: Report of a Case

Mandibular defects may result from many conditions such as trauma, inflammatory diseases and tumors. There are rare cases reported in the literature that have demonstrated spontaneous bone regeneration after resection of the mandible. Several factors such as age, preservation of the periosteum and genetics seem to influence spontaneous bone regeneration capacity in individuals. Evaluation of th...

Complete spontaneous bone regeneration following partial mandibulectomy.

Bone formation in small deposits following the loss of part of the mandible has often been reported in the literature, but reports of complete bone regeneration extending over the entire anterior mandible from angle to angle is rare. Even rarer, are reports on the behaviour of such new bone in terms of facial development, over a long term and the effect of load carrying on it. Presented here is...

Partial spontaneous bone regeneration subsequent to mandibulectomy.

A case of spontaneous bone regeneration after mandibulectomy is presented. The patient was young and had a mandibular resection performed for a large fibroma. Only one of the condyles was preserved. Partial preservation of the periosteum may play an important role in rapid bone regeneration. In this case bone regeneration occurred only in mandibular regions where the periosteum could be preserved.
